Conant Street Sidewalk, Streetscape and Bridge Overlook |
|
|
Client: City of
Maumee |
|
|
One of
the City’s newest attractions, the Conant Street project transformed a
previously seldom used embankment on the
Maumee River into a usable and picturesque community viewing area that
complements an adjoining streetscape.
Located on the east side of
Conant Street
as it crosses the Fort Meigs Memorial Bridge, the Overlook includes benches
and a series of decorative bollards with connecting chains that serve as a
safety barrier along the perimeter. Slate blue imprinted concrete extends
between the new curb and sidewalks. The decorative elements complement the
Maumee streetscape design, which was recently added to the adjacent downtown
area. In addition to the slate blue imprinted concrete, the eastern portion
of the overlook features flagpoles and viewing benches. Located at the top
of a natural embankment, the 60 foot by 30 foot triangular area is supported
by an area of benched earth measuring 130 feet by 40 feet.
|
 |
| A
walk-through underneath the bridge leads to the western portion of the
viewing area. A gently sloping embankment anchored with a brick-faced
retaining wall with limestone features within the brick extends upward to a
smaller terrace. The wall also serves as a connecting ramp to the City’s
Tow Path Trail. The terrace features exposed aggregate sidewalks, benches
and decorative chains and bollards. |
 |
Extending from the
Fort
Meigs
Memorial
Bridge
northward to Harrison Street, the streetscape includes period lighting,
sidewalks, a retaining wall, and decorative chains and bollards. From
Harrison Street to Williams Street, the project included more period
lighting, as well as slate blue imprinted concrete between the sidewalk and
the curb.
Constructed in 2004, the Conant Street Sidewalk and Streetscape cost
$266,000. The Overlook was constructed in 2003 at a cost of $348,000. |
